Aluminized Steel Sheets & Coils
Aluminized steel is carbon steel that has been hot-dip coated on both sides with aluminum-silicon alloy. This technique creates a tight metallurgic bond between the carbon steel and the alloy coating to give the new material desirable properties of both steel and aluminum. In this case, the finished product combines the superior durability and strength of steel with the extreme corrosion resistance of aluminum. Aluminized steel also has the following advantageous properties over its base metal:
High-Temperature Resistance—The silicon content found in the coating of certain forms of aluminized steel makes the material resistant to high temperatures by ensuring that the coating remains bonded to the steel substrate — even in environments upwards of 900 degrees Fahrenheit.
Corrosion Resistance—More corrosive resistance than both carbon steel and aluminum because of the aluminum oxide that protects the base metal.
Aluminized steel is commonly used in household appliances, lighting fixtures, automobile components, construction, residential and commercial HVAC systems, and engines.
Types of Aluminized Steel
Aluminized steel comes in two forms, Type 1 and Type 2. Each has its own unique benefits and is appropriately suited for use in specific applications.
Type 1 aluminized steel is hot-dipped in a thin layer of aluminized silicon alloy that has a range of anywhere between 5% – 11% silicon content. The amount of silicon used in the process improves the adhesion of the aluminum coating to the steel making it highly resistant to heat and corrosion. Type 1 aluminized steel is an ideal product for mufflers, furnaces, ovens, ranges, water heaters, industrial products, and bakeware—anywhere where the material will be exposed to high temperatures.
Type 2 aluminized steel is hot-dipped in pure aluminum alone which is better suited for applications where only a corrosive environment is present and high heat is not present. Type 2 is an ideal product for corrugated roofing, drying ovens, air-conditioner condenser housings, and grain bins.
Premium Steel Sales houses a large quantity of aluminized steel sheets and coils. We pride ourselves on forging strong partnerships with our many suppliers. We provide the appropriate type of aluminized steel for the required application based on the fabrication method and environmental setting involved at a price point that fits your budget.
Aluminized Steel Master Coil – We offer both types of aluminized steel, in the form of a master coil in a wide range of gauges.
Aluminized Steel Sheet – Coils can be cut to desired lengths and trimmed for custom widths for use in laser and plasma cutting as well as shearing and forming where finished sheets are required.
Aluminized Steel Slit Coil – We specialize in precise narrow slitting – even in lighter gauges. High-quality custom processing is available as well including slitting to width, and coil spinning for inspection or for breaking due to maximum weight limitations.
